Course Guide for Grade 8 Science
Course Description: Eighth grade science will be taught holistically as students will learn how the major concepts are related to this one world in which we share global resources. Students will also see how science is integrated with other subjects in school. Students will communicate in science through written reflections, visual articles (poster, comic, etc), lab reports, oral presentations, web quests, and internet research. Science is a course that exposes students to problems of international significance so students will be expected to think globally and speak about these important issues.
Course Goals: Students will investigate, collect data, and analyze information about the hydrosphere, microbiology, biotechnology, earth history, population dynamics, energy resources, and chemical reactions. The goals can be found in greater detail on the course website
Grades and Assessments: Students will be assessed through tests, quizzes, projects, labs, daily 5 minute checks, notebook entries, and homework.
Major Assessment (tests, projects, and labs)- 50%
Minor Assessment (Classwork, and Quizzes)- 40%
Homework - 10%
=100%
Policies and Expectations:

To the Parent:
This course guide and safety contract fully explain the expectations for the school year in order to be successful. I agree to let my child participate in labs and realize the rules they must follow. I realize that failure of my child to follow the lab rules may result in consequences such as removal from the lab.
