1) Late Work Policy-
Late work will be accepted up to 10 days after the initial due date. A 10 point penalty will be deducted from late work in which an extension was not requested prior to the due date.
2) Sickness Policy-
If you are ill, you will need to make up any missed classwork. Each student will be given the number of days absent to turn in the missing work. For example, if a student misses three days, they will get three days to complete the missed assignment. . If you require a longer period of time, then you must speak with me so we can establish a new due date. Certain labs will be replaced with alternate assignments on the same content.
3) Vacation/Unexcused Absences-
If you are aware that you will be missing a day of school for any reason (such as you are going out of town) then please notify me at least 3 days in advance. I will do my best to get you as much of the work that you will miss as possible. Getting this work will prevent you from falling behind and will make your return easier. Also, missing multiple days of school will quickly make you fall behind so please keep the time you miss to a minimum.
4) Missing a Test-
If you miss a test for any reason, you must contact me on the day of your return to school so we can schedule a time for you to makeup a test. A new test time will be issued to you and you will be expected to show up ready to test on the date provided.
5) Re-taking Tests-
If you receive a grade of a 89% or below, then you are eligible to re-take a test. In order to re-take a test, you must pick up a copy of a re-test form (from my room) that requires a signature from a parent or guardian and a statement on how you plan to study or prepare yourself for the re-test. If I receive a signed sheet with proper study plans, I will provide a time for you to come in and take the test again. I will take the higher grade you receive between your first test, and your retake. You MAY receive a different edition of the test on your retake, but it will test your knowledge of the exact same standards.
6) The Compassion Policy-
I realize that 8th grade can be tough and that sometimes events arise that prevent you from completing homework or projects. If this is the case, then please speak with me or have a parent/guardian email me. If you have a circumstance that prevents you from completing your work or testing on an assigned day, then I will accept a parent email explaining the cause. On rare occasions ( no one will be permitted to abuse this policy) tests can be rescheduled and due dates can be extended. I care about your mental, emotional, and physical well being, so I believe that everyone deserves at least one "slip-up" when it comes to getting your work in on time.
